Echuca Target has closed, but Kmart is on the way

IT WAS the end of an era, but the start of an age, as Echuca Country Target closed its doors for the last time on Wednesday.

With signs and black boards covering the store and old stock being shipped out, the store is preparing for a big and long-awaited change.

Announced in late May, the retailing conglomerate, Wesfarmers, said it would close as many as 75 Target stores and convert another 92 to Kmart stores in a massive restructure of the discount department chain.

On July 30, the store will be reborn as Kmart Hub, with a restricted launch on the day.
