Charity ride moves through Echuca

JACK Whelan’s ride to raise funds for multiple sclerosis (MS) and Outside the Locker Room is well under way.

The 27-year-old builder arrived in Echuca on Thursday, March 11, three days into his 14-day trek around Victoria.

His Miles for Smiles ride has already raised in excess of $100,000.

“I’m a little bit sore in the quads and hammies,” he said after arriving in Echuca.

“And my bum is sore from the seat, but we’ll ice up and get on with it.”

On Thursday night, he attended a session at Echuca Football Netball Club where he spoke.

In the lead-up to the event, Whelan explained the reasons for his ride.

“My cousin Robert was diagnosed (with MS) at an early age and we saw his condition rapidly decline over the space of about six years to the point he lost his battle,” he said.

“I remember doing the MS Readathon at school. For MS to be so common and prevalent in our society today I thought there was more to be done to support those people who suffer from it.”

He also opened up about his own mental health battles.
