After the COVID-19 pandemic all but stopped visitation to the area in 2020, the shire had an influx of visitors this season.
Shire general manager of community Keith Oberin said it was a great outcome for businesses after a disastrous year in 2020.
“The increased visitation over the Easter period provided great relief for all local traders who have suffered over the last 12 months,” he said.
“It was great to see so many people enjoying our historic port and surrounds.”
Mr Oberin said attractions including the PS Alexander Arbuthnot and Port of Echuca Discovery Centre had seen strong visitation across the period.
“The Easter school holidays was a busy period with approximately 3500 people cruising onboard the PS Alexander Arbuthnot,” he said.
“She ran an additional cruise daily and was booked to maximum capacity each trip.
“Approximately 25,000 people visited the Port of Echuca Discovery Centre, an increase of 6300 from the same period in 2019.”
The shire also reported strong numbers for holiday programs that were run over the holidays for the public.
“We had 160 children participated in school holiday activities with music and other activities within the Port precinct being well received,” Mr Oberin said.
“Approximately 400 people joined guided tours, both during the day and night.”
With the Easter period now over, the shire is seeing strong bookings for the future.
“Future group bookings through the discovery centre are going well, with 11 days booked so far in May,” Mr Oberin said.
