Echuca sent a message to the rest of the Goulburn Valley League competition with a dominant 32-goal thumping of reigning premier Seymour on Saturday.
The Murray Bombers never looked challenged, with the new look Lions struggling to get into the game.
Echuca coach Stephanie Vick said she couldn't have been happier with the outcome.
“It was a fantastic game,” she said.
“We went into the game without expectation as to what the season was going to bring.
“But we were able to play some really strong netball across the whole game.
“We were able execute our plans and work really well in partnerships throughout the game, and the result in the end showed that for us.”
Vick said there was a mystery around what other sides would bring to the competition for the season, so for Echuca to play its best netball was the best way to build.
“We knew Seymour was going to have some strong players even after losing a couple of really good talents,” she said.
“But we could only focus on what we brought to the court. Ange Slattery was brilliant in defence and Meg Eishold ran out the whole game in centre despite the heat which was a great performance.
“To have everyone contribute across the whole court was a really good sign, and it will help us build confidence on top of a really strong pre-season.”
