The women faced Shepparton Strikers, still looking for back-to-back wins this season.
They would fall short of achieving the feat, the River Rats playing out an entertaining 3-3 draw at Shepparton Regional Hockey Complex.
Echuca-Moama is still second on the women’s ladder, but is now eight points adrift of league leader Mooroopna, which it will face for the third time this season in its next fixture.
Meanwhile, a difficult season for the men was compounded by another loss, the River Rats going down 3-0 to Shepparton Youth Club Blue.
The side is still winless six games into its campaign, but a slightly better goal difference means Echuca-Moama is just above bottom-placed Mooroopna on the men’s ladder.
The River Rats face undefeated league leader Shepparton Youth Club Yellow in their next fixture.
The men and women also recognised Hockey Victoria’s Pride Round, celebrating diversity, inclusion and belonging by handing out a special player-of-the-match award in each senior game.
Sally Thompson was the women’s recipient, while Ryan More claimed the men’s medal.
Meanwhile, in the juniors, the under-16s lost heavily again, going down 6-0 to the combined Benalla Hockey Club/Shepparton Youth Club outfit.
The under-13s were the only Echuca-Moama side to win in round seven, defeating Shepparton Christian College 2-0.
On Saturday, June 27, the under-13s and men’s and women’s sides will play at Echuca College for round eight, which is also the final time this season the Echuca-Moama sides are playing at home.
Elsewhere in hockey, the Castlemaine men’s side made up of Echuca-Moama players in Hockey Central Victoria had another tough day at the office, losing 13-2 to Strathdale Tigers.
Castlemaine is still winless and sits bottom of the ladder, its next fixture coming against Eaglehawk on Sunday, June 28.
